First things first. You will want to make basic changes to the default theme ‘Generate Press’. You can of course install any theme you like.
Go to the Dashboard and select ‘Appearance, Customise’ to open the basic theme setup. The GeneratePress options show the page on the right, and a series of options in the left column.
- Start by clicking ‘Site Identity’. Here you can set the Site Title (Name), tagline, and upload the site Icon. To go back to the main customisation menu click the left poster icon near the top left.
- Choose ‘Layout’ next. Move through the options (noting how changes look to the right) till you have it how you want. If you don’t see a change you are probably adjusting another layout option than the page you are viewing on the right. You can click on page display options to view other layouts, and click the site title to return to the home page.
- Next, ‘Colors’ allows you to set basic layout feature colours, including ‘Background’.
- If you know exactly what you want work through these options. Otherwise just get familiar for later changes.
Generate Press has much more to offer, but first you need to make sure that the Plugin ‘GP Premium’ is active. There are several ‘GP *’ titled plugins on our sites. All the others are ‘GravityPerks’ (Gravity Forms related) plugins. The ‘GP Premium’ plugin when active has a ‘Configure’ link. This can also be reached thru the ‘Appearance’ Dashboard left menu item by pressing ‘GeneratePress’ there.
Here you can activate (or not) many other GeneratePress features. Tick the option boxes you want or all) then choose ‘Activate’ in the bulk actions (or Activate individually). When you return to the Customise area you will now see many more detailed settings you can use to adjust the look and feel of your site.
Enjoy.
